Rail

Lloyd’s Register ODS has more than 25 years experience in providing effective noise management from the contract phase to commissioning of the completed train. We also provide a wide range of services including troubleshooting in case of mechanical failures or noise levels exceeding regulation or client's requirements.

Lloyd’s Register ODS has more than 25 years' experience with noise and vibration control and the dynamics of railway systems. These include Light Rail Vehicles, metros, commuter and intercity train (EMUs, DMUs) and High Speed trains as well as a wide range of track technologies and infrastructures.

Controlling the noise and vibration caused by a new or refurbished railway system is crucial to meet strict requirements from railway operators, local authorities or TSI standards (Technical Specification of Interoperability). We provide effective noise management from the contract phase to commissioning of the completed train.

We combine different disciplines and advanced tools and techniques (in-house or commercial) to address issues such as mechanical failures of equipment or parts of structural frames, air-flow induced noise or pressure pulses for high speed trains, ground-borne noise and vibration generated at track-rolling stock interface to the near-by dwellings, and compliance with speech intelligibility requirements.

Rail technical assessment

Based on the latest calculation methods and a profound prediction expertise, we help you to predict the dynamic properties of your design, the noise performance of your vehicle and to identify and fix problems that might appear at a later stage.

Rail commissioning support

We provide valuable insight on design integrity and performance and help clients meet regulatory and technical requirements (operator specification, TSI, local noise regulation). We also perform tests and field measurements specific to the railway sector, applying the latest international standards.

Rail failure analysis

With leading technical expertise and proven experience in root cause analysis, Lloyd's Register ODS offers the rail industry an advantage in smooth and effective problem solving. Our expertise ranges from mechanical failures of components or structures mounted on-board the train and submitted to either track or power unit excitations (or both), to actual noise levels inside a train or a track or depot exceeding requirements or noise legislation.
