Fundamentals in noise & vibration
You will be introduced to the fundamentals of noise and vibration measurement, analysis and control techniques, and be better equipped to manage noise and vibration generation, propagation and control in vessel designs.
Overview
On this course you will be introduced to the fundamentals of noise and vibration measurement, analysis and control techniques, and be better equipped to assess and manage noise and vibration generation, propagation and control in vessel designs.
Upon completion you will...
Have the tools and techniques for preventing unwanted operational noise and vibration in vessel design.
Be able to do basic noise calculations.
Be equipped to write precise and clear noise specification for vessels.
Course content
Fundamental noise
Fundamental vibration
Building specifications for noise and vibrations – what should be considered in a new build specification
Low noise design
Noise and vibration sources
Global and local vibration prediction and measurements
Problems – demonstrations
Exercises – demonstrations
Topics will be illustrated with copious case studies including: singing propeller, propeller vibration problems, noise control in engine rooms, accommodation sound insulation and others.
Who should attend
Ship designers, ship operators, ship builders, naval architects and service engineers within the marine industry or people who have a general interest in quality marine designs with respect to noise and vibration. A general understanding of fundamental physics will be beneficial but is not a prerequisite.
