Vibration Comfort Monitoring

In many cruise ships, high vibration levels occur due to propeller cavitation during manoeuvring. Such vibration levels can be a nuisance when dining in cruise ship restaurants or in passenger cabins at night.

The vibrations in the aft ship are often local and not detectable in the forward end of the ship. It is therefore not possible for navigational staff in the wheel house to single out the problematic manoeuvres.

The Vibration Comfort Monitoring System has been developed to help navigational staff minimise vibration problems. By using the system for a period, the relationship between certain manoeuvres and vibrations can be found, and this will enable the crew to operate the ship with less vibration.
