Noise analyses would typically consist of noise prediction, noise reduction recommendations, and possibly custom-made design of accommodation build-up and silencers. The acoustic quality of large public rooms will also be analysed for vessels when appropriate.
By using the in-house developed software SHIPNOISE, the noise levels can be predicted. The SHIPNOISE software uses custom noise source input provided either by manufacturer or by measurements and is continuously being upgraded. The acoustic quality of large rooms is predicted using the software ODEON.
Based on the prediction, it is possible to select the most appropriate type of noise reducing measures, e.g. sound insulation, floating floors or viscoelastic vibration damping layers.
Our prediction services can be used already at the contract negotiation stage to provide preliminary, achievable noise levels. The prediction can also be used at later stage for the optimum design of noise reduction measures.
We provide our expertise for the development of special dedicated constructions of accommodation elements as well as custom-made silencer designs.
Lloyd's Register ODS participates in the proper choice of propeller design and aft body lines to achieve the best possible noise and vibration performance of the propeller. Our Boundary Element based PROPULSE computer model is used for prediction of propeller cavitation and vibration characteristics.
