Design & Construction
Lloyd's Register ODS offers high quality services helping our clients to specify and meet regulatory and technical requirements. Our activities cover all aspects of design and construction within marine applications including:
- structural design analysis
- modelling simulations predicting motions and loads
- noise and vibration consultancy services
During the design process for new vessels, naval architects utilize engineering simulation and advanced numerical modelling software to predict the motions, structural loads and acoustic noise and vibrations experienced by the vessel when travelling in various sea conditions.
By simulating multiple scenarios, we optimize the design of the vessel’s hull and are positioned to provide advanced analysis software for predicting motions and loads experienced by vessels travelling in various sea states, including modern, high-speed, multi-hulled crafts.
Key services include:
- Naval architecture: design & analysis using global and detailed FEA
- Drafting and technical specifications
- Seakeeping analysis predicting wave loads and vessel motions in any sea state
- Fatigue analysis simulating crack initiation and propagation under deterministic and spectral loads
- Underwater shock analysis
- Ship signature modelling & analysis: acoustic, electric and magnetic
- Noise predictions
- Design of noise reducing measures such as resilient mountings, silencers, advice on floating floors, sound insulation, low-noise propellers, etc.
- Vibration calculations and recommendations for reducing risks of high level vibrations
- Strength and fatigue calculations to achieve approved design
- Machinery dynamic studies
- Measurement surveys at the supplier and the yard during construction
- Acoustic tests of components
- HAZID / HAZOP
- Reliability based design & optimization
- Qualitative / Quantitative risk assessment
